Super League Show Goes NationalPopular Programme Is Set To Be Given Another Television Slot
Popular rugby league show, The Super League Show, is set to be given a second slot on TV.
Hoorah! The Super League Show is finally going national on BBC2! Usually The Super League Show is only available in the regions of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria, but thanks to the supporters of rugby league, the popular TV feature programme, which shows highlights from all of the games played on the prior Friday and Saturday, will now be aired nationally, with the 'Beeb' buckling under the constrant stream of pressure from fans outside the northern regions. The programme will keep its usual slot of Sunday lunchtime but will now also receive a repeat second showing at 12:25am, starting this coming Sunday on BBC Two. BBC Director of Sport Roger Mosey said on the BBC website: "This is an additional service for people who have told us they would like to watch it elsewhere in the UK. "There is also an audience running into hundreds of thousands at that time of night, so we will be introducing new people to the sport." The programme features articles on the latest issues, news and gossip surrounding the game at the current time, and is presented by the popular news figure Harry Gration, who also provides the local news for BBC One. Ex-Bradford and Huddersfield star Robbie Paul is often the second analyst and studio guest, and both are joined by other people that are involved or associated with the sport. This is set to create a boom in the non-traditional heartland areas of rugby league. Long have fans campaigned for the show to be shown in areas such as London, the North East and South West, but have only been able to see the show courtesy of digital services such as SKY TV, where different regions of the BBC channels are available. It is also likely to provide a welcome boost to the clubs such as Celtic Crusaders and Harlequins who are constantly on the lookout for ways of attracting new fans to the clubs, and have long suffered with low attendances because of the popularity of more dominant sports such as rugby union and football. The BBC however, continue to state that they would not be changing the format of the night-time show, by showing highlights of the games played during Sunday afternoon. "We can't change the programme. It will be the programme that people will see at BBC One, which we are hoping will be the normal time for the show on the northern network this year," said the BBC's Head of Regional Sport, Charles Runcie.
